Why web based forums in general have supplanted news groups is
beyond me.
The reasons seem fairly obvious. They were even obvious ahead of time.
I remember an ILink sysop predicting what has actually happened back
in the early 1990s.

You set follow-ups to news.misc, deleting aue, without putting a
notice of the switch in your posting.

Perhaps one of the "obvious" reasons for the move away from news
groups is that they sometimes attract posters with no sense of
netiquette.
