I was pleased to find pam [on my FC1 installation].
Like M$'s Norton Commander 'Agent' was worth cloning.
Interestingly both nc & Agent are hierarchy/panel based.

My pan is ver 0.14.2, which per latest mail-list archives
seems strangely to be the latest ?!

A serious problem is that "N/n" nor via menu does:
'read next unread article' work.

So if I've got a 400 long list of headers and the
corresponding articles at position 87 and 243 are
downloaded, then after I've read # 87, I've got to
manually scroll down [while watching for the icon]
to get to # 243. I guess that "N" should just take
me there directly ?
What am I doing wrong ?

Also, I mostly want to just down load the latest
50 headers after I subscribe. So I set the 'count'
from the default 150 to 50, but for many/most, it
just seems to download the hundreds which are still
on the server ?!

Also:
Tools > Posting profiles
Tools > News Servers
is unclear. Is the one for News & one for email ?

Also
Normal gpm's cutNpaste is disabled, although cut from pan
& paste elsewhere is enabled.

Thanks for pam.

ps I like the spell checker .

Pan is not a 'clone' of Agent; it was 'inspired by Agent' originally, but
it has taken its own path since. Think of 'version 0.14.2' as being
'version 14.2'; the leading 0. is a humble recognition that Pan is not yet
'perfect', I think :)) It has many powerful features that Agent lacks.

I have cross-posted my reply to the newsgroup news.software.readers, where
you will find other Pan users who will be pleased to help you get the best
out of their favourite program. I have also set 'Followup-To' to that
group, so if other people go along with my settings, that is where you
should look for most responses.
