I know something about Jack Van Impe because I've followed his
ministry for some 20 years. I know he was raised as a Catholic of
Belgian extraction. He supposedly became born again and then became a
Baptist minister. You wonder then why he doesn't preach that Catholics
need to get saved? He claims there is basically no difference between
Catholic and Protestant theology, and has been wild about popes John
Paul II and Benedict. The Catholics seem to believe that a person is
saved by baptism, even in infancy, while Jesus said, "He that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved." Mark 16:16. Catholics have
traditionally not emphasized Bible reading by members, at one time
even ordering them not to read the Bible, while Protestants have
traditionally taught that people are saved by reading and following
the Bible.
Then Mr. Van Impe has no problem with the Masonic Lodge. Has anyone
ever heard him preach against lodge membership? Because he knows that
his ministry is largely to Baptists and many of them are Masons. He
doesn't want to offend them and stop their contributions to his
ministry. But how about all of those dear Masonic Baptists and other
Masonic Christians who might end up in hell because Van Impe failed to
warn them about the errors of freemasonry? But the Bible says, "Preach
the word; be instant in season, out of season." We're supposed to be
preaching the same old gospel whether it's particularly popular today
or not. Many people believe Masonry is modern day Baal worship.
Van Impe used to preach that the United States was the Babylon of
Bible prophecies and would soon be judged for gross immorality. It
became unpopular to preach that way after 9/11, so Van Impe just
changed his tune to suit the times. He used to have a sermon "America
In Bible Prophecy" available about this, but I notice that is no
longer available from his ministry. He explains his pro-Catholic
theology by saying the Protestants are supposed to love their Catholic
brothers, but that love doesn't seem to extend to the Moslems. The
word "Amadinijhad" rolls off his lips with a snarl, then he says how
we're supposed to have "righteous indignation" toward the Moslems
today.
So Van Impe is in with the rich and powerful and trendy groups and
organizations and is willing to sell out the poor and oppressed
peoples if it's the "politically correct" and trendy thing to do
today. This has kept him popular with a lot of money rolling into his
ministry. But Jesus Christ warned us, "Woe unto you, when all men
shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false
prophets." See http://www.forgottenword.org/vanimpe.html
