CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (UPI) -- A Chattanooga, Tenn., man who declared a
"cat jihad" against stray cats in a local newspaper column is
being investigated by city police.
Sally Delashmitt called police when the number of stray cats she was
feeding began dwindling, and her neighbor, Max Gerskin, wrote in his
weekly column in the Chattanooga Pulse he had declared "cat jihad."
Gerskin complained in his column Delashmitt and the local humane
society had ignored his complaints about the strays and said he had
taken
matters into his own hands.
"As a result of her failure to cease and desist, I've officially
become a trapper and it's time to take a walk to the river," he wrote.
Detective Sgt. Steve Dillard told WDEF-TV an investigation was under
way.
"He (Gerskin) has told me that he is not hurting animals, or doing
anything to them that would be illegal, or being cruel to them in any
way,"
Dillard said.
Animal shelter manager Guy Bilyeu said Gerskin could face serious
consequences if it's determined his column is more than a hoax or "bad
writing," the report said.
