You made me go and look.... alt.math.recreational is quite on topic, though
I don't suppose I would know if it weren't. I wish I hadn't spent my
formative years reading about elves, I might know some math.

Check out Edna Kramer's _ The Nature and Growth of Modern Mathematics
_:

It's wonderful, a classic, months' worth of reading, many many strange
stories, many still stranger mental gymnastics, and you'll end up a
fairly competent general mathematician-in-embryo.

Game theory, anyone?

If it's explained in logic english I can follow it, I don't know why but my
brain seizes up when I see more than a few numbers in a row. I believe it's
a product of my conditioning, but I haven't had the option to do the LSD
sessions to see if those work... They were experimenting with using it to
undo mental blocks in subjects just like the math block - alas, the military
was more interested in bloodletting applications.

I've heard of that. Linguistic blocks, was wot I read about.

The problem there is overdoing it and consequent distraction. (And
also, possibly, mild flashbacks when doing whatever it is later--not
visuals but just spaciness.)

I'd start with _ Laws of Form _ in any sort of acidified math-study
course . . . .

"Horizon math", I guess.
